Volkswagen Exhaust Door Pushes Technology Upgrade: Diesel Vehicles Will Switch to SCR

"Volkswagen's" emission gate "will definitely have some impact on diesel vehicles in the short term, but this problem can be fully solved after Euro 6."  On September 25, Wu Xuling, deputy chief engineer of SAIC Commercial Vehicle Technology Center and head of powertrain department, told reporters in 21st century business herald in response to the Volkswagen "exhaust valve" incident.

Wu Xuling told reporters that in the field of diesel vehicles, there are two technical routes, DOC DPF LNT (hereinafter: LNT, lean-burn nitrogen and oxygen compound collector) and DOC DPF SCR (hereinafter: SCR, selective catalytic reductor). Volkswagen and other European enterprises have adopted LNT technical routes on passenger cars, with lower costs. However, if LNT technical routes are to meet the European 6c standard (plus RDE) which is closer to the actual use requirements,  Its difficulty and cost are higher than the technical route of SCR. Therefore, most Chinese car companies that meet the European 6c standard directly in the initial stage have adopted the technical standard of SCR.

However, after the "emission gate" fermentation, the diesel vehicle field is likely to reach a unified technical route, i.e. the collective adoption of SCR technical route, although the cost is higher than that of LNT, due to the unified technical route and similar cost, the competition in diesel vehicle products is more fair.
